Slovak Compliance Days 2018

On 12th – 13th November 2018, the 5th annual conference: Slovak Compliance Days 2018 took place at Falkensteiner Hotel Bratislava. This two-days-conference was organized by the Slovak Compliance Circle (SCC), an association of legal entities operating to promote the principles of business ethics and compliance in Slovakia.

One from the SCC objectives is to share best practices in the area of compliance amongst the Slovak business community. This objective was within the conference successfully accomplished as speakers from various companies shared how they have been dealing with compliance in-house. How they are applying compliance standards implemented by their companies, showing us countless examples of everyday business. They have been talking also about the compliance officer roles.

Speakers, the representatives of successful Slovak innovative companies talked about how their businesses are dealing with the risks of a modern and rapidly changing world. Conference was also dedicated to numerous topics like: innovations vs regulations in business, various views on AML, GDPR, blockchain, cryptocurrency, corporate investigation and even more. Successful today´s company is built on the basis of transparent and ethical business, with the main motive: trust.

Ability to work in a transparent and ethical business environment

Juraj Szabó, Head of Corporate compliance in ČEZ, mention in his presentation quotation, that despite all the changes in the dynamic world, core values are the only ones they stay remain and don’t change. “Two main pillars of trust, which are needed to successfully build compliance, are character and competence. Strong character attacks strong character, that is the way, it should work”.

Speakers were for example: Ronald Blaško (AmCham Slovakia), Šimon Šicko (Pixel Federation), Martin Laco (IBM), Naďa Roštek Spustová (Slovnaft), Ľubica Vandáková (HB Reavis), Michal Meško (Martinus), Michal Hrabovec (Anasoft), Tomáš Zaťko (Citadelo), Dušan Slimák (Tatra banka), Lenka Gondová (Exponea), Michal Bubák (KPMG), Martin Peter (Ministry of Finance), Ján Vittek (Tatra banka), Andrej Leontiev (Taylor Wessing), Gabriel Šípoš (Transparency International Slovensko), Ivan Skaloš (ST & TMCZ Group), Anna Remišová (Faculty of Management UK), Katarína Danková (SK+MED), Nikol Kubaská (SK+MED) and more.

At the end of this two-days-conference, participants were encouraged to follow best practices and adhere to ethical standard, the interesting question was asked. Martin Sasinek from Mercedes-Benz Slovakia would like to challenge everybody: “How to get out and use this positive energy full of support and shared knowledge which we together here gained?”

We are very proud that our law firm is one of the founding members of the SCC. We believe, that we are working in a transparent and ethical business environment in Slovakia and that this conference has shifted the theme of compliance to new horizons.
