State aid in tourism

In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus, several protective measures have been taken, which have led to the forced closure of various establishments, including tourism enterprises.

Ministry of Transport and Construction of Slovak Republic has in accordance with the Act No. 91/2010 Coll. on the support of tourism, as amended and Act No. 358/2015 Coll. on the arrangement of certain relations in the area of state aid and minimum aid and on amendment and supplementation of certain acts (act on state aid) has prepared the call for submission of applications for provision of financial contribution – de minimis aid to entities – tourism enterprises, affected by the forced shut down due to the measure of Public Health Authority of Slovak Republic and also with respect to the period after a restart of their operation, after the period during which the negative effects of COVID-19 pandemic has affected them.

This situation, exacerbated by uncertainty about further developments, puts companies doing business in tourism in an unfavorable economic situation and are forced to deal with the situation, so we have prepared summary information for them about the form of support they can apply for.

1. Authorized applicants

The authorized applicants are enterprises which:

  • were directly affected by measures of respective public bodies, adopted with respect to COVID-19 pandemic while such measures meant the obligation to interrupt or shut down their operations, or exclude the presence of the public in their operations; and/or
  • had dropped in the net turnover as a result of governmental measures by 40% and more.

2. Extent of aid

The maximum amount of de minimis aid to one enterprise shall not exceed EUR 200.000,- during the period covering the current fiscal year and two (2) previous fiscal years.

The amount of provided financial contribution is 1,44-10% of net turnover in the reference period, while it shall be divided as follows:

  • Tour operators 6%
  • Travel agencies 3,6%
  • Other activities 10%

3. Current call for submission of applications for provision of financial contribution

Ministry of Transport and Construction of Slovak Republic has on 21.04.2021 published a new call for submission of applications for provision of financial contribution.
