Competitiveness of the Slovak economy

As part of the initiative Rule of Law, LANSKY, GANZGER + Partner together with the Slovak Compliance Circle (SCC) and other employers' associations and chambers of commerce, have initiated and called on political parties to ensure the future competitiveness of Slovakia. The discussion took place on Tuesday, December 10th, 2019 in Bratislava.

The Slovak economy is losing competitiveness and needs change. This was agreed by representatives of opposition political parties in the pre-election debate entitled How to ensure the competitiveness of the Slovak economy.

Discussions on behalf of parliamentary parties were attended by several representatives of political parties, who discussed in particular the stability of the legislative environment, the independence of regulatory institutions, as well as the necessary changes to the education system or the need for greater flexibility in industrial relations.

The discussion with the representatives of political parties followed the discussion of the coalition of employers' associations and chambers of commerce, which on 26th November warned against deteriorating the competitiveness of Slovakia. At that time, employers and chambers presented two dozen commandments that the future government should address. Prior to the parliamentary elections, she addressed political parties to the Ten Commandments for Fair and Predictable Business and Ten Commandments for a Country of Talent.

A large part of their requirements were directed by employers into legislation. Among other things, they do not like the large number of changes in laws that affect business. They would also want to introduce mandatory comments and assess the impact of parliamentary proposals, or prohibit second and third reading of laws during a single parliamentary session.

The organizers of the pre-election debate with the representatives of political parties were the Association of Employers' Associations and Associations of the Slovak Republic, the Republic of Employers Union, the American Chamber of Commerce in the Slovak Republic, the British Chamber of Commerce in the Slovak Republic, the Business Leaders Forum, the French-Slovak Chamber of Commerce , Slovak Business Alliance, Slovak Compliance Circle, Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Slovak-Austrian Chamber of Commerce, Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Slovakia, Italy-Slovak Chamber of Commerce.
